Renowned botanist David Fairchild introduced many flowering trees to Florida and inspired people to plant them. The Royal Poinciana is the official flowering tree of Miami and the oldest Royal Poinciana in Miami is located at The Kampong. It was planted at The Kampong by Marion Fairchild in 1917 when she and Dr. Fairchild resided there.
